Easter Thoughts

My favorite holidays are those that have a Christian background. It wasn’t until this past year that I realized how closely the symbolism of Christmas and Easter follow one another. They seem to be polar opposites; one dealing with birth and the other dealing with death. However, if you look at the symbols we use in celebrating these two holidays, you will find that they all deal with new birth and life. How awesome that is! And, isn’t that the message Christ brought with him at his birth, showed us through his life and left for us at his death and resurrection…..that through him we can and will have eternal life?! That is the exact message God told Moses “This is my work and my glory, to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man”. What a wonderful plan of progression our Heavenly Father has for all of his children!
Easter has taken on new meaning to me and has spurred in me a new way of looking at his crucifixion and ultimately, his death. This is only half of the Easter message and celebration. The biggest half is that Christ was resurrected so that we can live again! Easter would have no meaning without His resurrection. Resurrection puts the life into Easter, so opposite from the mortal understanding of death! The symbols of Easter; the egg, green grass, baby chicks, the lamb, the lily and the sweetness of chocolate, fruits and candy are a wonderful reminder that Christ brought everlasting life to each child of our Heavenly Father through his birth, life, death and resurrection. How we choose to let it affect our lives is the main message and basis of His gospel. Our lives should be a refection of that perfect gift and sacrifice He gave to us so that we, too, can enjoy eternal life with Him!
