Do as I say, Not as I do!

When your 2 year old, who generally loves going to bed, has a crying fit while screaming "Barbie shoe, Barbie shoe".......that is the time to take a deep breath and count to 100 very slowly. Don't get frustrated (because you can't understand the sudden change of character) and throw her in her crib (for the third time) along with her blanket, and turn off the light and shut the door behind you. Take my advice, when you have a sudden change of behavior and jumbled, non-sensical words come out of your toddlers mouth.......THAT IS THE TIME TO LISTEN! When she makes it out of her crib and comes in sobbing (but less frantic and much more controlled) and points to her nose and says "(sniff) Barbie (sniff, sniff) shoe (sniff).............that's when you get a flashlight and feel horribly guilty that you got so frustrated and treated her so poorly as you see a tiny blue Barbie shoe stuffed up her nose! Then, after you fished it out with a long pair of tweezers you were lucky to find in the linen closet, you give her a great big hug and tell her you're so sorry you weren't listening! Then you calmly talk about WHY we don't put Barbie shoes or anything else up our noses! Then you give her a hug and a kiss and she happily goes to bed and all is well........again! It finally happened, it took 5 toddlers until I got the "object up the nose" ordeal. Whew, hope I don't have any more!
